Organochlorine pesticides are compounds of very low solubility in water and very high in fats, so they accumulate in organisms presenting a high chronic toxicity. They are very persistent because they have a high resistance to degradation by solar radiation, temperature, humidity and metabolic processes, which allows these compounds to remain in the environment for a long time.
